15 Dresses You Can Wear to a Summer Wedding

Sunday, June 20, 2010 • by Roselle

Brides like to get married in June more because the weather is good (with spring ending and the summer just starting) rather than because it’s the month of Juno, the goddess of marriage and fertility. And because most brides like outdoor weddings, June is simply considered the perfect month to tie the knot; and that’s this month.

Chances are, as I’m writing this, you’re probably being invited to one or even several. And while attending several weddings is fun, it also requires some dressing up. Is your wardrobe prepared for this onslaught of knot-tying events?

I’m sure you’re already geared up for summer, but were you able to include a few dresses fit for special occasions such as a summer wedding while you were doing your shopping? If by any chance you haven’t, well you’re in luck, because I’m writing this article and with it are some recommendations.

Here goes:

Beach Weddings

If you’re off to a beach wedding, some light and breezy dresses will do. If you intend to wear something white, check with the bride first because she might not be ok with sharing the spotlight. The length of the dress need not be long, but if the invitation says formal, then you will need to go floor length.

Prints are ok to wear but pick cuts that don’t look too casual, and it would help if it comes in a dressier fabric. These dresses are great examples:

Kirribilla Silk Dress, $395; Kirribilla Wave Print Dress, $ 480; Carmen Marc Valvo Turquoise Day Dress, on sale for $99

House of Dereon Grecian Gown, $395; Von Vonni Venetial Green Long Dress, $98

Garden Weddings

Bright colors, light colors, and pretty prints would be the best dresses to wear for garden weddings. Again, if the invitation says formal, a long dress will be necessary. Otherwise, you can go for something shorter.

Do avoid wearing something too short, you don’t want to scandalize the wedding by showing too much skin. Try the following:

Trina Turk Yellow Ponte Dress, $248; Trina Turk Strapless Sundress, $248; Kara Janx Apple Dylan Halter Dress, $250

House of Dereon Long Tie Neck Dress, $418; Von Vonni Azur Blue Long Dress, $88

Black Tie Indoor Wedding

If by some weird chance the wedding you’re off to is an indoor black tie event (which usually does not happen often during summer), then keep prints out of the picture and stick to solid colors.

If it’s a day wedding, pick lighter colors; it it’s an evening wedding, you can go for darker colors. If the dress code says cocktail, you can go for a shorter piece, but go for long ones if it says formal. Try these:

JS Boutique Black Evening Gown, $218; JS Collection One Shoulder Evening Gown, $396; Tadashi One Shoulder Evening Gown, $548

Carmen Marc Valvo Beaded Banded Cocktail Dress, $680; JS Boutique Ruched Cocktail Dress, $218
